Essential Ingredients

Look at these two photos that Jinny took while vacationing in the Galapagos Islands. The Red Footed Boobie (yes those are red feet) has a lot of gray in his body, but when looking at the photo, one tends to see green, red, and blue and ignore the grays. The same is true with the Sally Lightfoot Crab. Forgetting the rocky background, what colors do you see in the crab?

Click on each of the photos to see a pixilated image with individual colors isolated. The top three rows of colors in the crab photo have all been found in the crab image. Would you have believed there are that many neutral colors in that brightly colored creature? Look at all of the grayed blues, greens and reds in the photo of the Blue Footed Boobie. It is these neutrals that give all the other colors their brilliance.

For years, Jinny has stressed the importance of a broad range of colors in a palette and the fundamental importance of a "deep dark" and an "accent." She has now added "neutrals" to that list. It is these "Essential Ingredients" that are one of the most important elements in any color scheme, yet they are colors that most people pass by because they don't jump out from the shelf and say "buy me." Jinny's Fabric collection "Essential Ingredients" answers the need for these all-important neutrals.
