2014 Quest Quilt- Lotus

Cairo tentmakersLast February I was asked to give a lecture at the AQS show in Phoenix. The quilt show was amazing and it was my first opportunity to see the Tentmakers of Cairo. The two men from Egypt were demonstrating the appliqué technique that they use for decorating tents.  I loved both the boldness and intricacies of their designs and thought that maybe it was time that I got back to appliqué. Inspired by what I saw, I have recently been working on quilt designs that contain both piecing and appliqué.

About a month ago, I shared with you a photo of a quilt on my blog that I was designing and making for our annual shop hop, Quilters’ Quest. At that point, I had the star made and was working on the appliqué which would be in the background squares and triangles.  With all the flight time on my recent trip to Japan, I was able to finish the background and I recently added the borders.

Lotus

If you are in the Washington D.C. area Nov. 7-16 this year or are in the mood for a road trip, you might enjoy taking part in the Quest. We are working very hard gearing up for it, making special projects, assembling kits, and preparing demonstrations.

Each shop has designed and made a quilt using our color-coordinated 2 ½” strips.  When you visit a shop, you will receive a free pattern for that shop’s quilt. The colors are jewel tones and blend well together. Our Quest quilt, Lotus, shown here, is made up of the strips that each shop will be distributing. There are ten shops and if you make it to all ten shops you will be eligible for some fantastic prizes.

We still have a few places on our two buses and would love to have you join us.

  1. I too love Applique and and have done many wall hangings and small quilts using it. Your quilt is beautiful. Oh, I always use your border prints for the edges. I hope you will make the pattern available in the future for those of us who live too far away to join in on the Quest.

    1. Linda,

Keep checking our website and newsletters for updated information on this pattern.

      1. I definitely will.
        Thank you!

  2. I also wish I could go on the hop. I was fortunate to take your hand piecing class at your shop about a year ago when we lived in PA. We now live in IL which is too far to go for a Hop. I so hope you offer this to those of us who can’t make it to your “neck of the woods.”

  3. Jinny,
Your quilt designs are always the best and my favorites, I think that I have almost every quilt kit that you have offered for sale.
This one is a real beauty. I love making the star quilts, since I took your class for hand quilting, but the applique really sets this apart, and is beautiful. I hope that you make this in a large design. I would love it for my bed.
Can’t wait until it goes on sale, I have moved to Missouri, so can’t attend the Quest this year, so will be looking for it on line.
Thanks for bringing us the best quilt designs ever. Mary

  4. Please let me know if kits become available of the Quilter’s Quest kit. I live in California and can’t make it out for the run. Thanks. Love your designs. Cheryl

    1. Thanks for your comments, do check back with us after November 16 regarding the Quest quilt kit!

  5. I live in Kansas and am unable to go on the quilter’s quest. I wondered if it would be possible to get your quilt pattern & fabric as a full kit and how much would it cost. Then have it shipped to me? Thanks, gayle.

    1. Please feel free to give us a call at 1-866-759-7373 after November 16 to find out details about Lotus the quilt kit.

  6. I was just in your store and purchased the Lotus kit and plan to do the alternative embroidery work instead of the applique. Purchased the pearl cotton but wish I had taken a picture of the stitched block. Would it be possible to get a photo of this unit emailed to me for reference? Would sure be helpful.

  7. It’s now 2015 and I just saw two quilts at the QU show using the Lotus Pattern. I couldn’t find it on your site and am hoping you have at least one pattern I can purchase. It is just about the most beautiful quilt I’ve seen in a long time. Thank you,

  9. The lotus quilt is stunning. I was wondering if you have a video tutorial on making this. I have never done appliqué before. I am an advanced beginner so I don’t know if this quilt is too advanced for me. I would be thrilled to be able to make this!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!

    1. For the Craftsy 2015 BOM, there are some wonderful videos with Jinny teaching applique. These are free once you sign up. Click here to find out more.

  10. Do you have the Lotus quilt pattern? If you do I would like to get it. I love it.
